Sir John Bennet Lawes Sir John Bennet Lawes founded both the Lawes Chemical Company and Rothamsted Experimental Station. This punch cartoon was published when he sold the company for £300,000. £100,000 of this went into the Lawes Agricultural Trust, set up to fund the research station.
